Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
Schouten Europe commits to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Through this international framework, we define concrete CO₂ reduction targets aligned with the Paris Agreement and the 1.5°C ambition.

What is SBTi?
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) supports organisations in setting climate targets grounded in the latest climate science. To ensure credibility, Schouten Europe submits its targets to SBTi for validation and approval. After validation, we report on our progress annually.
Why Schouten Europe chooses SBTi
Through the sale of plant-based protein products, Schouten already contributes to CO₂ reduction. On average, meat alternatives have a lower climate impact than products based on animal proteins.
With SBTi, Schouten Europe makes its own emissions transparent and reduces them in a structured way. This strengthens our position as a reliable partner for retail, foodservice and industry.

Current status
Schouten Europe has formally committed to SBTi and submitted all relevant data to support its emission reduction targets. To ensure a thorough process, we collaborate with Groen Balans and use the Carbon+Alt+Delete system.
The validation phase is currently ongoing (Q1 2026). SBTi is assessing our calculations and proposed reduction targets. Schouten Europe is classified as a small and medium-sized enterprise (SME). This means our greenhouse gas reduction targets cover Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, alongside a commitment to measure and reduce Scope 3 emissions.
Following approval, we will publish our reduction plan and report annually on our progress and results. In doing so, we ensure our targets remain transparent, measurable and aligned with international climate objectives.
