Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
Schouten Europe commits to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Through this international framework, we define concrete CO₂ reduction targets aligned with the Paris Agreement and the 1.5°C ambition.

What is SBTi?
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) supports organisations in setting climate targets grounded in the latest climate science. To ensure credibility, Schouten Europe submits its targets to SBTi for validation and approval. After validation, we report on our progress annually.
Why Schouten Europe chooses SBTi
Through the sale of plant-based protein products, Schouten already contributes to CO₂ reduction. On average, meat alternatives have a lower climate impact than products based on animal proteins.
With SBTi, Schouten Europe makes its own emissions transparent and reduces them in a structured way. This strengthens our position as a reliable partner for retail, foodservice and industry.

Current status
Schouten Europe has submitted all relevant emissions reduction data to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Our targets have now been approved. Target:
Schouten Europe B.V. commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and scope 2 GHG emissions 63% by 2035 from a 2022 base year, and to measure and reduce its scope 3 emissions.
As a small and medium-sized enterprise, our approved target covers scope 1 and scope 2 emissions. For scope 3, we measure emissions across our value chain and take step-by-step action to reduce them.
Now that our targets have been approved, we are working on our reduction plan and report transparently on our progress each year. This keeps our approach measurable, clear and aligned with international climate goals.
