Growing demand

Falafel is a traditional Middle Eastern product made from pulses, usually chickpeas, and herbs. Once mainly known as street food, it is now popular worldwide thanks to its rich taste, versatility and the growing interest in global cuisines. Schouten has been selling falafel in various formats for many years and has seen demand increase significantly in recent years.

“Our new varieties have been developed for B2B customers in retail, foodservice, QSR and industry. The falafels combine a pulse-based foundation with surprising flavour profiles and offer chefs, product developers and consumers plenty of opportunities for distinctive menus and concepts,” says Annemiek Vervoort, Product Manager at Schouten.

Three flavours, three distinct characters

“The Falafel Harissa delivers a warm, spicy flavour with a mild kick and contains lentils. Ideal for street food concepts and global cuisines. The Falafel Green Pea & Mint is fresh, smooth and aromatic. An approachable variety that fits perfectly within modern, light dishes. The Falafel Beetroot stands out with its natural colour and subtly sweet taste, creating immediate visual impact on the plate,” says Vervoort.

Plant-based and Nutri-Score A

As you would expect from Schouten Europe, the falafels are fully plant-based and developed with a strong focus on quality, texture and taste. The products have a Nutri-Score A, indicating a favourable nutritional profile, and are suitable for a wide range of applications, from wraps and bowls to burgers and meal components. With this introduction, Schouten reinforces its role as an innovative partner in plant-based solutions for the professional market.
