Schouten is a meat substitute manufacturer. In 1990, we were already following our belief that the world needed a sustainable alternative for meat. We became the first meat substitute manufacturer in the Netherlands. Today, we’re operating at a global level and we even have our own team in the USA, Schouten USA, where we’re very active. Our products are made with plant-based protein derived from soya, wheat and peas. We also use many additional plant-based protein sources at Schouten, including nuts, seeds, lentils and chickpeas.
What makes us different from other meat subtitutes?
We stopped being the only meat substitute manufacturer a long time ago. But we’ve always continued to differentiate ourselves. With more than 30 years of market experience, we’ve gained lots of in-house know-how. Both in the field of product development and in marketing.

Quality standards
Needless to say that as a meat substitute manufacturer, we adhere to the highest quality standards. Our in-house quality team consists of 7 people, and they do everything they can, every day, to guarantee food safety.
Our manufacturing locations are BRC and IFS-certified. The fact that we’re working with a number of different, specialised manufacturing locations makes us highly flexible and capable of offering a wide range of products.
Our selection of meat substitutes
Our selection consists of a large number of product groups, including burgers, schnitzels, sausages and snacks. At Schouten, we distinguish between two main product categories: Schouten Classics, which includes all products that are based on existing meat products, and Schouten Variations, for products with their own identity.
