Schouten Europe introduces innovative new plant-based tuna
The Dutch family-owned company Schouten Europe is launching an entirely new plant-based tuna this month. Designed for versatile use, the product is suitable for spreads, meal salads, wraps, and ready-to-eat meals. It also serves perfectly as a topping on pizza or flammkuchen.

Enhanced Taste and Texture
Schouten previously introduced a plant-based tuna. “We have achieved a significant step forward in both texture and taste,” says Annemiek Vervoort, Product Manager at Schouten. “We are confident this new product will meet consumer expectations even more effectively.”

Protecting vulnerable tuna species
Product Manager Annemiek Vervoort: “Many tuna species are heavily overfished and some, such as bluefin tuna, are even threatened with extinction. Our new plant-based tuna has the same structure and taste as real tuna. You can eat it cold straight away, making it ready to use immediately. This way, everyone can continue to enjoy the taste of tuna responsibly.”

Recipe optimization
Schouten has recently been actively enhancing its Classics range, products designed to replicate meat and fish. “We firmly believe that continuous improvement of these products will drive greater consumer acceptance. After all, why wouldn’t consumers choose something just as delicious, while being healthier, more sustainable, and cost-effective?” Vervoort explains.

Showcase at Anuga Trade Fair
Schouten’s new plant-based tuna will be presented and available for tasting at Anuga in Cologne – the world’s leading trade fair for the food and beverage industry – taking place from October 4 to 8. Schouten will be exhibiting in the Alternatives Hall 01.2, stand number E021. Currently, the vegan tuna is available chilled in 3.5 kg or 1 kg bags, with a minimum shelf life of three months.
Pioneering Dutch Company
Founded in 1990, Schouten was the first Dutch company to develop meat substitutes from plant-based proteins. Today, the company offers one of the most extensive and diverse ranges worldwide and supplies products, primarily under private label, to more than 50 countries. Schouten also develops many tailor-made products based on customer demand. Since 2021, it has expanded its portfolio to include fish alternatives.
